Farewell ... for now

This post is just an update regarding the future of the Golden Dragon. TL;DR I'm putting the Golden Dragon on hold for an undetermined time.

It's been a while since I wrote my first post for the Golden Dragon. I began this endeavor as a means to not "get cold" when it comes to writing. In November of last year (2023), I left Google seeking a job as a Technical Writer (TW). Even then, I knew that writing a blog wouldn't be a strong asset for getting an acing a TW interview. But it was something that I could do immediately and that would keep me writing, even if not technical content.

Although I haven't been trying really hard to get a job, I also haven't been able to get a single interview for TW. I'm not too sure I really want one right now, specially after my experience with the TSE role. Still, competition is fierce out there in the work market. I'm currently open to try out something different (anything but support). I've only had a couple of interviews for some other roles. My perception so far is that... I'm inevitably transmitting my indecision about getting a job in my interviews. And that's partly why I haven't found one. Incidentally, that was going to be the topic for this or the next post 😅.

Every single post has been an introspection exercise. I love writing. I think it definitely helps me think clearly. And it's not an easy task. I do feel like my writing has improved overall, simply because I've written all the articles I've written so far. But circumstances in my life have changed. I don't think investing more time into the Golden Dragon is my best move, at least right now.

This doesn't mean that I won't be writing any more articles ever again. I definitely will. But I'd like to work on other things first. For example, I'd like to try doing my own hosting. Unless you unsubscribe from the Golden Dragon, I'll keep you posted wherever this ends up.

I don't consider the Golden Dragon a failure. Business-oriented people may call it that. But I never did this for the money, even if getting some out of it would be great. I know there are still quite a lot of things I could have done to increase subscriber count and get revenue out of this.

My greatest concern is that... perhaps in order to achieve that, I would have to start writing about topics that don't really interest me. And that would turn this blog into a regular job where I'd only do it for the money. I don't want that. If that was the case, I should've stayed in TSE 'til kingdom come. This hasn't been the case with other initiatives I've had, like producing my Gwent gaming content. And so I'm choosing to put the Golden Dragon on hold.

Thank you very much for taking the time to read me, everyone!
